Hey cbr. .. that pic looks like a scene from a mission in far cry 2..... or was it 3?

peteGS

Hahahahahaha rant much EJ???

Definitely still lean so I think I might try butchering a stock pair of main jets if I have a drill small enough to see if it's the main or mid main/needle that's causing the flat spot.

At least now I can ride around it again and keep riding to work.

No time/opportunity for full throttle plug chops at the moment as I'm on call at the moment...

This is the most fascinating (and ongoing) carburetor tech-thread I've ever witnessed!
pGS is going to be the needle-valve king of the internet.
Cant wait for the final chapter when you get this all sorted out!

I'm with Janx on this. If I had carbs that did this to me, I'm have filled them with lead from a 12 gauge ages back. A lot more patience than I will ever have.

peteGS

Mate I can't wait to get this sorted, she already feels like she's got a bit more sting in the tail so I'm really keen to get this done!

I've got those GS500 camshafts to go in yet too... nearly got motivated to do that last night but decided it was too humid so gave it a miss...

As for patience... well... there's no budget for a new bike or a brand new set of carbs so it's either work with what I have or go without a bike... I ain't goin' without a bike again!  :thumb:

Not questioning your wrenching skills Pete... but still reckon whatever the issue is..... is probably a really small issue/part/oversight that is gonna make you scream when it's sorted! ... wear a helmet before running headfirst at the garage wall! Lol ;)

Lmao' been there many o time lol

Oh I hear ya' Janxy!!

Right now I'm pretty sure it's down to getting the fueling right. I think it was the coil leading me up the garden path.

The old carbs the problem was definitely the diaphragms, these new carbs I'm 99% sure I just need to get them tuned properly.

I reamed the stock mains out last night... and the best indication I can find is that the 115's are now about 185's...   :icon_eek:

But if the issue is too lean a main, then my flat spot should be gone and once I get up over half throttle she should be way too rich...

If that works out, then I'll be on the phone ordering proper mains  :thumb:

Cos I'm old-ish .. and tired... and forgetful. ..and tired. .. and on my phone.... and tired...... did I mention tired?...

The last several weeks seem to have brought in a rash/influx of new owners, multiple but same threads, 'fresh faced instant experts',  people with revolving door reasoning and some/few normal types. .

Is it always like this at this time of year and I forgot/didn't notice before? .  Or are we having a bumper season for signups? ..

Maybe I'm just more grouchy and noticing more?

BTW. .. I haven't been all over the threads. . But it's been ages since I actually noticed any post by our illustrious leader Johnny boy!? , I may have missed his posts too? ... or is he holed up in the arctic wilderness with only a leprous llama for company? .. hiding out from 'the men in grey suits'? .. lol

Janx101

.. apart from that... I'm gonna buy bacon. .. much bacon!... on my way home... BBQ it on the plate and sit in front of tv eating its greasy goodness!...

Nyah Nyah!

Malfruen

Can I join you Janx? Bacon sounds amazing right now...

Janx101

Hmmm... sharing my bacon? .. that's a tough choice! ... torn between brotherly sharing is caring ... and... MY bacon! Grrrrrrr!

Lmao

Malfruen

Lol, it's all good. I have my own bacon. And Jack Daniels. I can finally put today behind me.

Janx101

Nods. .. didn't think of that... we can share a virtual arvo bacon snack! ..

I did mine as a sandwich, 'just' crispy bacon, wholesale thick cut bread, mango pickles and black pepper... delish!

peteGS

 :technical: :technical: :technical: :technical: :technical:

My dodgy main didn't make a scrap of difference to the flat spot and it feels worse when I get it open.

Stock 60 mid main back in, main back down to 132.5... I'll bet I'm too rich across the board... going by what Big Rich said over on the GS Resources... he has the same carbs on the same bike and went *leaner* than the recommended jetting listed for the 500... doh!!!

See if I get to work and back ok today...

Mmmmmm bacon...

Janx101

I actually bought a kilo of bacon yesterday.. . Separated into 4 packets of 3 large rashers. .. ate one yesterday.... guess what's for arvo snack today?! Lol

Janx101

Oh Pete! .... just to stir your imagination. ... scrap the whole carb idea and just work up a induction fuelling system with 9" long velocity stacks that suck the air in about under your nads area of seat!

It'll be fun!

Malfruen

Just been informed of a ride this weekend. Gotta do some cleaning of the bike I think...

At least it'll give the other riders something to laugh at :P

peteGS

Hahahahaha sounds good Janxy, on it now!!!

I get to ride this Saturday with my big shaZam! eating grin on  :icon_mrgreen:  :woohoo: :thumb:

I got to work and back yesterday with just one brief stumble where I think she's still a bit rich on the main jet.

Dropped them to 127.5 last night and will see how she goes today... oh I was a happy boy when I got to work trouble free yesterday!!!
