Hi Neil, that is awesome you got your GS back even though it was stolen!!  Good luck with the rebuild, post a project thread with lots of pics!  Also, post a want-to-buy in the For Sale/Wanted section for your need for a tank with lock and key  :thumb:

Hi. I am a 34 year old guy from Greece. A happy owner of a 2004 Gs500f, only one week in my possesion and my very first bike to boot(got my licence the same day I got the bike)! I am pleased to find such a dedicated place for the little Gs. Which isnt so little. And not so old. Well, maybe it is, but who cares?  :icon_mrgreen:

Hi, name is Steve. I'm 68, sold my dirt bike last year and thought I was done. This winter I decided there was more to do, and the GS was what I'd do it on. Mostly I want to explore. Probably no more than a week at a time, more often just a weekend. I live in Oregon, and there is a lot to see within a 2 or 3 day ride. The GS is perfect because it's simple enough for me to work on, I have no worries about the bike getting me home, and the range is amazing. Mine is a 1998 500E that has been left boney stock, and I'll mostly keep it that way. It has 18,000 miles and has been well cared for by the look of it. The tires still have more than 50% tred and have age cracks. New tires will be an early update. The oil light was on all the time, so I chased that down to a pinched wire and fixed it. Three of the valves are in spec and one has a large gap (.152mm), so I'm waiting for my new feeler gauges and bucket tool to see what will be needed there. This forum has been a gold mine of information for a newb to these bikes. Can't wait to get it on the road and start enjoying.

Welcome Steve, I got my first GS500 back in 99 at age 66 and have put 180k miles on 2 of them in the 16 years since.  So keep on keeping on, the best is yet to come.   :thumb:

It's actually my first motorcycle in general so I might not have much to add to most of these conversations but I still look forward to learning and hopefully not asking too many dumb questions lol. I live in OKC Oklahoma so if theres anyone around the area we should ride sometime!!

Let me start again,. My Name is Manuel and I am located here in Toronto and have worked in the legal field.

When I registered last Oct. 13,2013 , I posted two topics but I guess I failed to introduced myself in this section. I guess the brain fade was due to all the meds.  I am new to the field of motorcycles and bought my Gs500f before a major surgery.  I need to rebuild a few things on the bike and I have been doing a lot of research on this forum to help me out.

I hope to contribute 1 day on this site.

Hello, my name is Nate and I just sold my bike :(

Upgraded to a 600 of a different brand (that shall go unnamed).

Just wanted to thank everyone here for all their help! If you search my profile, you'll see I had a number of questions and all were answered, so I'm really grateful for the help here. If the forum of my new bike is half as helpful as this one, I'll be happy.

I really liked my GS and like many people with their first cars, I'll always have a spot in my heart for my first bike. I honestly looked forward to coming home after work and working on it :)

Heck, maybe when I get older I'll get a GS again! ...Just gonna make SURE it's fuel injected, not a fan of carbs any more.

You've been sold to somebody who'll appreciate you more than I, godspeed.

I've recently bought an Fz-09 a few months ago since my gs500e blew and can't seem to find a new engine for her.

Hello Everyone. I'm Diego and I'm from Costa Rica, central America. I have a 1995 Gs500e. I LOVE IT!! I recently got married and we travel on the bike Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to work since there are lots of cars on the road those days and to save some money on gas.. I'm upgrading the rear suspension soon since the stock one bounce a lot and I've been reading a lot here about the 2006 yamaha R6R shock

Looking forward to learn about the bike and how to do stuff to it!!

I'm an immature 48 year old from Toronto Canada for the last 8 years.  Originally from a small town just across the river from Detroit.  Professional by day - but a curious kid by night.  Getting back into riding after being away from it in my early 20's.
