QuotePictures please chrisafitz78!! I want to add a cup holder tooooo

It is actually a bottle holder for bicycles, but it works for my coffee mug. I bought the saddlebags off of a guy on Craigslist who was planning to do a cross country ride on a 1979 Bonneville. No surprise, he couldn't get it running reliably and decided to sell the saddlebags. There were two cupholders in the bags, so I figured, what the hell?

QuoteEven though you probably have a flip up or open helmet, I can just imagine a straw sticking out of your mug as you ride.  :D

HI

Bought my bike about 2 weeks ago stock.
it was dropped on the right side. had some rash on the fairings.

the upgrades and things done so far.

1. Stebel Horn upgrade - super loud
2. Reflective Rim tape
3. Battery Tender Jr and the USB charging cable adapter
4. Plastidipped all the fairings and tank in white, then used 4 coats of glossifier for high visibility
5. Found some automotive decals on ebay and i just put them on.

I love this bike

Youtube and this forum has been immensely helpful with almost every mod!
I have never worked on a bike, or 12 volt systems before.

already logged close to 500 miles since day 1.
Also passed my NJ test yesterday.  I didnt get perfect on the cone weave, but it wasnt an automatic fail!

Any south jersey riders have some good routes and roads to suggest?  Thanks

Sam

Bought a new clutch pushrod oil seal. Trying to suss out a bit of a leak dripping down. I'll put it in next oil change. Meanwhile I cleaned everything up under the sprocket cover and put some grease on the push rod and put it back. Will check tomorrow.

fakejimmymorgan

pulled front wheel for new tyre tomorrow, giving axle, nut and spacer a good clean and replaced the screws in my brake fluid reservoir for socket head stainless steel.

Changed tyre, fitted cap head screws to brake fluid reservoirs front and rear.

Checked valves - they were exactly where I left them at 6,250 miles now at 11,920 miles.  Running the wider clearances on the exhausts. About 0.09mm on one side and 0.13mm on the other.

Loosened then retorqued the cylinder head dome cap nuts while I had the valve cover off.

Checked compression - 144 psi and 147 psi.  Better than when I first bought the bike.

Set mixture screws to 3 turns out with 40 pilots.  Then I synced the carbs and got a real nice idle.  Borrowed the motion pro carb sync tool from a neighbor.  It definitely did a better job than my homemade water based differential manometer.

Buttoned her all back up and cleaned up the garage.

last post to this thread was November 08, 2015, 09:03:24 PM, so lemme tell you what I have done to my bikes recently...

The Boulevard M50 got a Batwing Fairing and went back into the "Solo Configuration"....

The Boulevard C90T is almost to it's first oil change @1,000 miles...how is that for reviving a necro thread?  :dunno_black:

Just in case you don't know? I sold my GS500F years ago, I stayed for the Fun!

Today I installed a new keyless gas cap,

I used JB Weld to attach a small magnet to the underside of the cap so that I can stick it to the tank while fueling.  Otherwise I would drop the cap for sure.

replaced the upper triple clamp - the old one had stripped out threads on one side and I was using a longer bolt with a nut.  Since I wasn't going to use the ignition key-cylinder that came with the triple clamp I started drilling out the security bolts.  After a while of messing around with that I tried a different approach.  I used a hack saw and sawed into the  sides of the unit just under where the head of the bolt was.  The unit and the bolts are aluminum so it took less than 5 minutes to saw which is approximately 55 minutes less than trying to drill out those bolts.

Then I swapped out the ignition coils to see if that would help reduce the backfiring I get sometimes.  I'll take it for a test ride in the morning!   :icon_mrgreen:  After that I'll replace the CDI and see if that changes the performance too.

I swapped out my sidestand for one from a '98 E model bike.  It is almost half an inch longer which helps a little since I raised the suspension on my bike.  I still need to lengthen the sidestand though because it looks funny leaned over so far when parked.

I took off the exhaust and cut the baffle a little to increase the air-flow, since I installed it I have lost power at WOT... I think I need to rejet to get the power back since running without the baffle is a bit too loud.

Yesterday I drew this in SolidWorks, its a bracket for a DRC tail light.

Added some inexpensive Matazu Hard Bags ($99) to the M50...

I didn't like the mounting hardware, so I fabricated my own...this took up the bulk of the morning, but I am happy with the results

Rode to work for the first time with my new tank bag and also put air in the tires (first time I checked in a while  !!)

Had a trying evening working on my '99. Began the tear down for new fork seals and sonic springs. Everything went well until I got to the damper bolts. I foolishly thought I could get away with using a 8mm allen key to get it out and ended up stripping the left fork.  I then bit the bullet and bought long allen sockets and was able to get the right bolt out with the help of the homemade tool and my impact. Should have gone this route the first time, I tend to get ahead of myself and strip bolts. I continued on with the teardown of the right fork and ran into another issue with the fleabay fork seals I bought, they seemed 1mm too small on the ID and OD. Trashed one trying to get it over the tube. This is the second time I've been burned by incorrect gaskets/seals, going OEM from now on.

So, I bought some new OEM seals and damper bolts. Planning on drilling out the head off the left bolt then removing the remainder of the screw from the damper bolt with vice grips while I wait on parts.

Today, I rode to the beer store. No, not to drink, to obtain some beverages for later consumption. ;)

Tonight, either a late ride in the twisties or will be fitting new exhaust mounting bolts since my old ones fell off, stupidly I left them finger-tightened after removing my center stand! Although I had a few bolts lying around that made for a nice quick fix, got the OEM jazz waiting to be installed.

Fresh oil and new plugs last week. New chain and front sprocket last month.

I cleaned the newly discovered oil off of my fork. I was wondering why steering felt a little "splashy" on the past couple rides. I kept checking tire pressures...

Replacing the fork seals will be a project for another day. Just enough of a PITA that I am considering taking it to a shop.

I have the parts: new seals, new progressive springs, fork brace... but I'm lacking the motivation. I guess there is a special tool involved too so

z315

Rode from San Francisco back to Sacramento and felt crazy vibrations- hands and foot went pretty numb (even wearing moto boots)

Checked tire pressure and was severally under-inflated.  20s both in the front and rear.

-inflated to proper PSI, changed oil and cleaned chain.

Don't be like me, check tire pressure regularly.

jdoorn14

While I had the tank off, I figured it was as good a time as any to make some swaps on the handlebar controls:

  • SV650 throttle tube
  • Driven Axis grips
  • Adjustable anodized aluminum levers from Mad Scientist Moto (formerly 434 Racing)
  • SV650 Clutch perch
  • Custom clutch cable w/ 90 degree bend -- purchased from adidasguy (RIP)

Replace my air filter and fuel lines. Did an oil change and cleaned the chain.
Then went 2-up to some Oregon wineries and moto camping/hiking in the Deschutes National Forest.
