Fitted my custom seat cover and racked my brain over the needed brake master cylinder  for my clubman bars :mad:
If I'm not riding it, I'm fixing something or making it cooler...... Kinda

HI there GStweiners, today I changed the oil, not the filter, took out the spark plugs out and noticed that they were dry and a bit white and then adjusted the mixture screws and idle.

Whilst I am here, how do I add a profile picture please.
I get knocked down but I get up again.

Today I removed the upper fairing, slid headlight brackets over the forks, mounted a headlight and turn signals, and took went for a test ride around the neighborhood.

My picture isn't the best and the bike project is still ongoing...

Was testing it out in some traffic and splitting lanes, the cars were parting like the red sea so I think there's some visibility boost. It puts the wind right at the top of my visor when down and doesn't seem to jostle my head around too much. I can tuck slightly and I'm under the airstream. I think it looks pretty nice too on this bike... really happy with it.

Edit: I might look vaguely like a cop?

I checked the valves (still in spec after 10,000 miles  :woohoo:) and built my own manometer to sync the carbs.

Recently I added an LED H4 headlight that actually works and LED driving lights from ADVmonster. Also put on Renntec crash bars with highway pegs so I can stretch my legs out when doing some upcoming high mileage days. FYI, the renntec crash bars are compatible with minor modification with the R&G sliders and the F model fairings.

Put in full synthetic. It seems to run better, or maybe it's placebo.

Painted the stainless steel exhaust cover which I had carefully masked off when I painted the header pipes last year. A much improved look, I'm well pleased with the result. I couldn't be arsed taking the exhaust off again so I left a bit of raw steel showing.

At the start of the season I dropped .90 sonic springs into the tubes. This week I switched out the less expensive eBay fork seals for genuine Suzuki and added 15W fork oil. The rear suspension got dialed up one notch so that the indicator is now on five. I would recommend to anyone to research these upgrades for themselves.  For me, these small changes are making all the difference with my normal street riding style.

@RideShield, just a spray can of  high temp black paint from the local auto supply shop. Goes on easy with no priming makes a huge difference if your headers are all ratty.

Bought a can of chain lube and a chain brush, cleaned and lubed my chain, ordered new handlebar, bought new handgrips for said handlebar.

That exaust looks great, I'm thinking i may want to do that. The exhaust is the only chrome thing on the bike and I feel like it sticks out like a sore thumb. Yours looks much less conspicuous

Not today, but yesterday. I went out for a nice ride with a couple of friends. We had 80+ degree temps (almost unheard of for mid-October). 86 miles down some Indiana farm roads. We got stuck behind some farm equipment for a couple of miles on a 1 lane road, but otherwise it was a great ride. My one friend that has been riding for as long as I've known him was on his SuperDuke 990, and his brother on an FZ-07. I kept up okay, for the most part. I did have the GS up to 108 indicated in fifth...that's the fastest I've had it since I bought it back in February, and it felt like it had a bit more to give before I let off. I'm hoping to get a couple more good riding days in before it gets too cold!

You must be light.  My Honda CB500 topped out at that with me in full tuck and throttle pinned.  My GS was a few MPH slower before it ran out of power.



Anyway, I cleaned and sort of polished the headers on my Lightning.  Didn't use any compound or a buffer so I can't really call it polished, but I used two grits of Scotch Brite and some WD40 and got it back to looking like stainless.  After cleaning them off and going for a ride the headers turned a light bronze color.  They should continue to darken with heat cycles, but as long as I keep them clean they'll stay shiny.

Not today, but over the weekend: sanded, painted, cut and buffed my side and tail plastics and the "new" tank.

And not today, but probably tomorrow, I'll do it all over again.

I'm around 175 lbs, and had a nice, freshly paved road to get up to speed on. I don't have much of a desire to get it to that point again lol.

@Watcher: those headers look very nice! Also, did you get a new seat? One in the second pic looks different than the one in the first. Gotta say, that yellow/orange accent strip on the seat looks sharp!

Also, I weigh about 170 and I've gotten my GS to about 105 indicated. I wasn't trying to top it out though, just having a bit of fun on a mostly empty highway early in the morning lol. Maybe I could've gotten it to 110, I wasn't quite redlining, but I was close.

Thanks everyone!  Yeah, it's a Corbin.  Corbin makes primo seats at a primo price but when your ass is on the line you don't cut cost  ;)
They have a million different materials and colors to choose from, and all seats are made to order.  I went with a "Carbonium" saddle (like carbon fibre look but a little larger of a pattern) with "gripper" accents (looks like heavy textile material for a jacket).  The Goldenrod "welt" is just icing on the cake!





It's too bad the CF tank pad doesn't match, but the tank pad is kinda worn and faded, and can be replaced with pretty much anything at any time.


Ok, so I currently weight around 220lbs and lately I've been +/-. Hard to say what I weighed when I topped out my GS but I had at least 25lbs on all of you.  Had a runway-esque road and ran that to redline as long as I could take it.  Don't remember if I even got it to redline in 5th but if it stopped pulling me I would have upshifted.  6th didn't have much to offer at this point.

Not really worth bragging about to you all since it's more than twice the size and EFI, but "cruising" at 80 in 4th on my Buell all I did was roll on and and that needle just casually strolled past 100 and kept goin with one more gear available!  I do not wish to top out this monster, and if I do it'll be at a track!  :2guns:

The seat on my Dad's R75 is a Corbin. He said it cost like $600 bucks, but was well worth it. So I definitely believe you on the "primo seat for primo price" thing.


Also, today I drained some of the extra oil I added a while ago. Bike has been being pretty sluggish and not accelerating or revving up as quick as it should, and when I checked the oil level it was way higher than what it shouldve been. Bike needed probably 1 quart when I first discovered it was low, but I added around 2.5 because that was what it took to get it to read right. However, I failed to account for the bike being warmed up when i checked it the first time, so I added way too much. Drained about a quart and a half and now the bike is running/riding much better. Live and learn lol.
