Greetings all, new to this forum so please bare with me.  Got a winter project going (I live in west central Wisconsin) and I need some help with a non -vacuum petcock.  The gas tank that I'm using on my project is from an 80-82 Suzuki GS450EX and I need a non-vacuum petcock for this gas tank.  Are there any non-vacuum petcocks from any other Suzuki models, other Japanese bikes that will fit this tank? The mounting holes are 45mm center to center.  Thanks for everyone's time and response to my question.  wiguzziman

The GS500 has a manual "tank petcock", the one that fits in the tank. The vacuum petcock is standalone, downstream from the tank petcock.

I think you are looking for a tank petcock with a thumb lever, right? I can't help you find that, just trying to rephrase the question so others here might know how to help.

The older GS bikes had just the one tank mounted petcock that were pretty bike specific and probably was a vacuum petcock. Unfortunately, it looks like Suzuki does not sell the GS450 petcock any longer? On both my '06 GS500 and '80 GS1000 I've opted for new Suzuki petcocks and fuel lines and that solved all issues.

Why does it have to be non-vacuum? There are several reproduction petcocks on ebay. Also some used GS450 petcock and rebuild kits.

Looking at the parts fiche closer, it looks like the GS450 petcock shares the same petcock gasket with most of the 1980's Suzuki GS bikes. So you could purchase one of the GS petcocks that still is available, like the GS1000, and it should bolt right up.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Yes I'm looking for a petcock with the lever on it; the "on", "off" and "reserve" kind.  As to why the non-vacuum petcock, the vacuum style petcocks; IMHO are a PITA.  I'm old skool and want/perfer the old style petcocks that you manually operate.  I may have found one that will work, but wouln't know for sure until it arrives and I can try it on the tank.  I'll keep you all updated as to what I find.  Again, thanks for the help!!  wiguzziman

I guess when you say "old skool" you mean really old because vacuum petcocks have been the norm on street bikes for over 40 years. A vacuum petcock has just one rubber vacuum line and its much more likely to prevent issues than cause them. A manual petcock requires that you remember to turn it off after ever ride or risk overflowing the carbs if your float isn't working perfectly. A vacuum petcock might require maintenance once or twice over the life of the bike, but for bikes ridden regularly should never require a second thought.

I would buy an OEM GS1000 petcock, fresh OEM vacuum and fuel lines, and be done with it.

Trusting a vacuum petcock on an older Japanese bike is just not something that I'm willing to do.  Yes, "old skool" does mean just that.  2021 marked 62 years that I've been riding and working on motorcycles.  If I'm going to spend the money on a new petcock, it's going to be a manual petcock.  I'm used to turning the petcock OFF after each ride, not relying on some flimsy rubber diaphragm to do it for me.  To each his own; vacuum petcocks are NOT for me.  Just trying to find a non-vacuum petcock that will work on my tank, not having a debate on vacuum verses non-vacuum petcocks.  I do thank everyone for their input.  wiguzziman

Success!! :-)  I was able to source a non-vacuum petcock that will work on my 1980-82 GS450EX gas tank.  It's for a 1978-83 Yamaha XS650 and is the "old skool" manual "on", "off", "reserve" style petcock that so many of us grew accustomed to.  It's a direct bolt on fit, and comes with several outlet options; straight out right or left and 90 degree up/down and right or left.  It's available from Mikes XS as well as Niche Cycle, an e-Bay seller.  I appreciate all the suggestions that everyone came up with, and I thank you all!!  wiguzziman
