Male, 25 from Green Bay, WI. First bike, 2007 GS500F, and apparently struck it pretty lucky by purchasing this make/model without knowing much about cycles. Married, 1st little one on the way in January, so I thought I would just get the mid-life crisis thing over early by getting a Suzuki.

Glad to be a part of the gstwin society-

Oh to be 25 again ... don't worry you're not getting the mid-life crisis thing over with early.  You'll hit another one when you're the proud father of a teenager.  My husband can attest to this.  His new 2010 Camaro arrives next week.

Nothing wrong with Buell parts on a Suzuki: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=47031.msg528059

Oh I know.  It's just sometimes those guys come off a little "snooty", you know?  Like their parts are too good for anything other than Harley or Buell. IMO it should make no difference where it's from or where it's going so long as it fits (sorta) and meets the purpose (kinda).

There used to be a guy on this forum called Pablo, he modded his GS using all sorts of parts from other bikes, using info garnered from this site.  He no longer owns his GS, has upgraded to a Honda CBR 600.  But the info he compiled is priceless.

Hi, my name is Mauricio and I have a fondness for Suzuki GS twins.

What's that Can on the GSF?  I can't make out the name.  I have three and a half questions:

1. How has the performance been with it?
2. Would I need a Power Commander with it?
3. What's the sound like?  Is it loud?  :icon_mrgreen:

I saw one on YouTube recently called the WACS.  It's from Brazil and I don't think you can get it here.  I think it sounds sweet with deep rich tones but my husband says it's a Neighbor Hater  - this coming from a guy who put a shorty can on his R6!

Jardine. They make a full system in stainless steel and aluminum can.

Quote1. How has the performance been with it?

Well... it does two neat tricks:

a) It doesn't rust. Huuuuge improvement over the stocker.

b) Perfect excuse to rejet. The GS-F is my winter bike, and it ran awful in anything below 40ยบ weather with the stock jetting. I do mean awful... needed like 10 minutes on full choke.

Quote2. Would I need a Power Commander with it?

A what???  :icon_mrgreen:

You do know the GS500 is a carburetted bike, right?

Quote3. What's the sound like?  Is it loud?  :icon_mrgreen:

Lovely. Sounds meaner, but not antisocially loud.

I'm new to the game.  Yes I knew it wasn't FI (it's got a choke), but at the expense of sounding like an idiot I thought I'd better ask.  Who knows what exotic part someone may have come up with for it.   After all, you guys are the GS Gods...

Seriously though, I'll be checking out that Jardine can.  Coincidentally, I figured out what the can was before I came back today to read the post - yesterday my brother-in-law bought his wife an '03 Kawasaki ZXR 636 and it came with a Jardine can.  As soon as he rolled it into our garage it clicked - the J and the red background.  The bike sounds great.

I appreciate your help and insight.  Thanks!  :thumb:

My name is Brian, I'm 27 and married with a daughter.  I am very new to motorcycles, I just got done with my MSF course and will be getting my license here in the next couple weeks when I get back to Utah from Vegas.  And probably in the next week I am going to be buying my first bike, a '90 GS500 from a friend for $500.  The bike needs to be gone through, needs new fork seals and has had bad gas in it for over a year.  Nothing I can't handle myself, this winter I will probably look into doing some upgrades to stuff not really sure yet which is why I'm here.

Hey everyone, I bought my 2007 GS500F just a few months ago.  I haven't done anything but ride it every chance I get.  Its my first bike and I have grown very fond of it.  I was originally thinking of selling it and getting something bigger, but I think I'm pretty happy with it and will hang on to it.  I had the leak from the shifter rod problem and GStwin was my savior.  I took that cover off and found an inch and a half thick of gunk including leaves and twigs!  The bike has run like a champ since I bought it, but I definitely want to make some small improvements.  I've started a wish list and can't wait to get started on it.  If anyone is in the Abilene/Dyess area, let me know and we can set up some rides or something.

Hi all,
Just joined the group and thought I would introduce my self.
My name is Andy I am originaly English, but have lived in Andalucia,Spain for the past 10 years. Married with 2 boys, 2 dogs and 4 cats. Out of all of these the boys are deffinatly the most trouble.
I have a Guzzi lemans2 based race bike, a guzzi G5 that I use as my daily ride, a laverda alpino and an XS650 awaiting a rebuild along with a load of other bikes that are there for pieces or are just too vile to think about as a bike(honda 450dx for example).
I will be looking for a Gs as soon as I get some time(busy time of the year at work) and will be using it as a supermoto/track bike. I know it sounds wierd, but it keeps me off the streets. So all you race guys be prepared to have your brains picked about cams and flowing techniques.
Regards
Andy

20 Year old male, Pittsburg, KS, SE Kansas.  College student.  I have been riding since i was 12 and laid my first bike over when I was 13, an 82 Yamaha 650 special, cruiser.  Bought my first bike a 2006 GS500f for 2500 bucks, 2700 miles on it in June of this year.  In August, the bike was backed into, and then stolen 10 hours later.  I just finished upgrading Exhaust, (Jardine), DynoJet stage one,  Didn't know about the K&N Lunchbox till after I ordered a stock K&N replacement filter.  Katana gsx600f rear spring.  Debating front fork swap, but like the feel of the bike as it is now.  Plus after reading the how to section of swapping it out, looks to be way over my head.  The three days where this bike was stolen were some of the worst days of my life, and can't see myself parting with this bike for any reason, short of a fortune.  A lot of this site has been very helpful.

Hi there,

37 from sydney australia here.  Just bought an 03 naked model after spending 18months on a honda cb250.  Compared to that it's an absolute pleasure to ride.

The bike's fast becoming my regular commuter to the point we might sell one of the cars.  See what happens.

Anyway - hello, hope to become a regular.

Luke.
