I'm thinking to buy bluehaze's R6 shock, but begin to doubt if it will with with the stock airbox (which I don't want to swap out, sorry K&N fans). Does it or doesn't it? Anybody got installed pics?

I am no K&N fan either of late. But I suspect it will be a very very tight squeeze but just about manage.

maybe you could heat up the airbox and reshape it a little, just enough to make little more room for the shock??

just thinking out loud

Bluehaze

jesus.. why does everyone listen to buddha regarding this shock.. he hasnt even put it on his bike.. this thing is fine and will fit witout needing to remove the air box.  its a great suspension.. he may have recieved a bad shock for all we know.. out of the few people that has posted about and actually INSTALLED IT..  they are all positive.

I keep saying its a double eyelet shock. The one that fits a GS is a eyelet and clevise shock.
Read the post guys. Really prolly every word. I am great and contradicting myself, no I'm not.

Anyway airbox torching - as you were ...

Done 3000kms with my r6 shock and it  hasnt imploded or exploded.  I am using the stock airbox. Have a look at my install post for more info.

The R6 shock seems fine. I've got a K&N lunchbox and not the air box. The shock dosen't fit with shorter dogbones though.

I know this is an old topic, but I've been trying to look up some info for replacing my rear shock with an R6 shock. Seems way more complicated that I expected. Seems to be some confusion as to which one you can use.

Anyway, my question... will it work with longer dog bones to lower the rear? Everyone keeps saying you can't use shorter ones to raise the rear. I don't have any plans to change the height yet, but once I get myself another bike, this one's going to go back to being ridden by Heather, and I'd like to lower it with the dogbones I already have. Will I be able to leave the R6 shock on it if I lower it?

seamax

I'm going to take a stab at this and say YES longer dogbones will fit the R6 shock because....

I currently have a red R6 with shorter dogbones. I had to grind a little bit of the inside of the swingarm to not hit the lower coil on the R6 shock to accomodate the shorter dogbones otherwise it's a direct bolt.

With longer dogbones for a lower ride you probably will never hit that lower coil.

I had the GSXR shock before and could not fit shorter dogbones in there because the gsxr shock was longer than the stock shock. The R6 shock is almost equal in length as the stocker.

Thanks, I'm gonna keep an eye out for the red one. Did anyone ever figure out if the yellow coil shock will fit, or just stick with the red one?

I will soon find out - I have R6 shock with yellow coil but didn't have a chance to install it yet.
If someone could give me dimensions of the red coil I could measure mine and then we will know if it's the same thing or not (I hope it is)

I've read that the holes are supposed to be 290mm center to center, but that's about all I've seen as far as measurements.

kml.krk

what about the coil itself? How 'wide' can it be? (the distance from left to the right side of a coil) sorry - I can find proper word for what I mean ;)

I don't have a measuring caliper handy but eyeballing it with a ruler I would say it is 70mm.

diameter
I thought about diameter but then I realized that it may suggest the thickness of the coil  :dunno_white:
anyways, I am going to measure the coil as I just got back home.
Give me a minute...

76mm.
does it mean it won't fit??

I'll be at the work shop this weekend where I have real measuring tools so I can get a precise measurement (if I remember to take the shock with me) but eyeballing it looked less than 76mm to me.  Doesn't mean it won't work though, may just require you to grind the swing arm more.

-Jessie

tt_four

That's just an additional 3mm on each side. A couple seconds with a grinder, or a couple minutes with a file and you should be fine.
