I've never understood comparing bikes to cars.

I hate to be Captain Obvious, but you're comparing a motorcycle to a car - period.  I'd EXPECT an F3 to beat a Z06 in a dragrace.

Look at it this way:

The guy owns a Z06.  Chances are if he's got a bike it's way nicer than an F3 CBR, or if he wanted to buy a bike he'd shoot right on past the F3 and get something newer, lighter, more powerful, handles better, etc. etc.

Did outrunning the Vette actually surprise you though?

EDIT:

To answer the "Cars vs. bikes" question in terms of which is quicker around a road course it's an easy win for cars.  Look at overall fastest laps for any major circuit and the cars easily hand bikes their asses.  Cars have much more grip, much more room for aero packages/downforce, etc and WAY more power which can equate into better power:weight ratios than even superbikes.

...but on the street, in a dragrace, most of the time 600cc sportbikes should hand a lot of expensive sportscars their own asses.

actually i read an artical last year and it was a 1 liter bike against a supped up skyline and a kawa 600 against a vette 400 hp and around the track the bikes were faster..... accelaration bikes faster.... slalom bike faster....... braking distance cars won that section and that was it bikes took it !!!!

Look man iim not saying you didn't see such an article, bit I will say that I trust circuit times of real, professional racers on the vehicles they're best at lapping tracks with more than some independant source that may hve been either biased or had dumbasses riding/driving different vehicles.

I'll see if I can dig up some Laguna seca laptimes for Moto GP versus different types of racecars.

I have a video of Tiff Needel (5th gear host, and professional racecar driver) drive a carrera 4 around their test track, then he has a professional motorcycle rider do the same. I will try and dig up that video and upload it to the web......

from a roll, the vette would win. whats the trap speed of the vette vs. the bike? the only reason the bike is quartering sooo much faster, is the fact you can 0-60 way quicker due to weight.

I beat the Vette from a roll the first time.  And I didnt even get a good start.  2nd gear at about 3k rpm's bike doesnt really hit the power band until 6 or 7k which is when it was all over for the Vette.  Im pretty sure the car couldve done alot better with a better driver the guy like to spin his tires (have to show off all that power you know).

Top of page two dude 5th gear clip of a Lamborghini (sp?) vs. Ducati 999 around a track.  Ducati barely wins but they were saying the 999 couldve gone faster had he been able to keep the front wheel on the ground more often.  Probably not gonna happen but the bike won. They were both pro. or at least well seasoned rider/ drivers so it was pretty damn fair.   Neither vehicle was race preped (sp?).

And for those who take this bike vs. car way too seriously I just was sharing a story.  Holy crap calm down.  I dont give a damn if the guy with the vette has a bike or not (probably not)  I just love the fact I can destroy his ass on the street from light to light (which is what most people with muscle cars brag about, yeah a know the vette is a sports car but most stupid ass rednecks dont. Its American so its a muscle car whatever)  with something that is way cheaper and gets at least twice the MPG even when I rev the piss out of it.  Its nice to be able to take rich old people down a notch every now and then.

the biker was a moto gp racer before now he teach in a ss program but cant remember wich one..... the car driver is a racer but cant remember in what kind of car races he was all they said it was that he was good.... and when your racing in a pack its harder to push on it cause you dont have the space you would like

I guess I'll be the one to take it too seriously.

:)

You're the type of guy I have to bite my tongue around when I'm at a meet, whether it be for cars or bikes.  There's always this guy who has a mediocre car at best who keeps flapping his gums at guys with nicer, faster cars, and when the guy finally gets called out for it he'll ramble off "well let me go get my bike" or whatever.  It's just completely obvious that a bike SHOULD be faster than even expensive cars in a dragrace on the street.  I guess if you're still arguing the point after reading all the replies you're just not going to get what I'm saying.

QuoteIts nice to be able to take rich old people down a notch every now and then.

Oh come on!  Do you REALLY think that guy in the Vette was jealous of you on a bike that's almost a decade old?  How exactly is some guy (you) on an old BIKE supposed to be knocking a guy in a Vette "down a rung" anyways?

Oh well.  Have fun making Ferrari and Lambo owners yearn for a decade old 600cc motorcycle after you show them who's boss!

Most bikes are faster than most cars.  Therefore beating a car on your bike is not impressive.  End of story.  I've seen this exact same post on countless car and bike boards.  Usually a guy on a car board says "I beat a bike with my blah, blah, blah..."  Then in come the biker boyz to defend the bikes:  "well with a good rider the bike would have walked the car blah, blah, blah..."  WHO FRIGGIN CARES!  Any vehicle can beat any other vehicle in a race.  Miss a shift?  You lose.  Spin tire(s), you lose.  Snooze at the light, you lose.  There is a lot more than just power to weight ratio that determines the out come of a race....get pulled over by a cop while racing, you lose!  LOL.

Okay, dude, I'm talking about a Carrera 4 vs an R1 though.
